It snowed today.
Millions of tiny, crystalline flakes
swirled then fluttered
to the ground,
gathering into little piles
of alabaster.
They muffled the world,
these miniscule bits,
dampening the city’s noise,
softening the harshness.
Then, in the distance,
like a carillon’s call to prayer,
a child’s peals of glee
burst forth,
breaking the solitude.
And yet, still,
the snow continued to fall,
