The Corridor

I mistook once
as avid failure
a turn into a corridor
whose unfamiliar arteries
housed shadowy crevices.
I waffled for a while at the gateway
and would have turned back
but found the passage I left
just as foreign,
so I traipsed down the gallery,
steps firmer with each stride.
Once in a while
I’d glance behind,
acknowledging the miles,
but along I moved,
pulled inexorably forward.
