Flower Shadows on Rust

I. Galvanized iron, Jane –
that’s what you are,
impervious to sea foam spray.
So hold your head high
and batten down the hatches
torn open from within.
The rust peels off
eventually
then flowers will dance in shadows
topside.

II. Don’t fret
the last note fading
with the marching band.
Confetti rained for
you, too,
in dazzling, morendo cascades
despite those “boys who will be boys.”
So stand tall and
hold steady;
their requital awaits.
Eventually.
