The ship’s been docked so long
only echoes sound dead men’s songs,
but your journey’s just begun, mate,
already hampered by lead weights.
Cut and run! Here’s not where you belong.
Posted for the Writing 201 (Poetry) day 2 prompt: Journey and my first (conscious) attempt at a limerick…sigh 😦

I love the feel of a distant echo falling through the rhythm of the poem. The words have a beautiful but desolate shape, like a cry. I could smell the sea air.

Your photo of the ship reminds me so much of one I snapped in Iceland! Where did you take yours?

Hi LexKlein! Scotland (for sure!), BUT I wasn’t very good about keeping notes of places back then, so I BELIEVE it was somewhere on the A87 on the Isle of Skye, just before the town of Portree. It seemed like we stopped at every lay-by, there were so many things to catch my eye. 🙂
