Storm Clouds Gathering

Sometimes the very air conspires,
pressing and pressing
until lightness is merely a dream.
Soon the clouds gather in darkling crowds,
and rain splatters to the earth.
The slate sky battles for an hour –
perhaps a day! –
but time narrows to this stretch,
this desolate, interminable space.
What wondrous sight then
the lightening hinting in the distance
for the clouds disperse betimes the sighting,
and the world breathes easily once again.

Gray Though the Winter – a Tanka

Gray Though the Winter

Gray though the winter,
its muted sun dampened by
drizzles, defiant
sprigs glisten in the garden –
bare-limbed but for sprouts of green.

Ebb and Flow

The ebb,
in
rolling foam,
arrives
unannounced
and the shoals,
abandoned,
wait
for waxing hope
to return.

At First Unfelt – an attempt at Tanka

which she flew, from her dainty
beats a storm arose,
nascent gusts at first unfelt
’til Man’s bellows fanned the air.

Careful,
miner,
the spade dug
into earth
beneath a canopy.
Roots filigree below,
yet unexposed
to scrutiny.

Youth – a Haiku

Youth wonders at the

world, living and laughing with

abandon and joy.
