When the Door Closes

My secret life as a poet, writer, photographer…

Hope

Light pierces gray clouds
oppressing turbulent seas.
Lone gull soars aloft.

***I wrote and posted this before reading a repost from O at the Edges. My work has always been about finding internal peace. This, though, was a hope we all find peace with each other. So, for what its worth, here’s my contribution to #PoetsForPeace ***

Path Through Bleakness

Clear path meanders
through bleakness to storms afield,
whose gray consumes all
but a bantam blue patch, veiled
beyond sight in the corner.

Sunset and Dolphins

Sun rose gloriously,
coloring the world vivid,
but, setting, deprived
sky and sea a brilliance – light
singly tied to future’s rise.

Through Locked Gates

Passing through locked gates,
casting shadows as it lights,
Evening shimmers.

Light peeks from behind
night’s shroud, blinking sleepily.
New day. More chances.

Sometimes dreams burn to embers,
and, mourning, convictions scatter
like ashes blasted by the wind.
When the fire’s fizzled, though,
and the burn salved,
a tiny bud emerges from the gray,
not quite new
not as fresh
but there –
there! –
nonetheless.

Waltzing Weeds

Birds crow in triumph –
even weeds waltz in the sun.
Garden after rain.

From the Shadows, Color

Briers cast shadows
long of thorn, short of flowers.
Behold one, reward.

A Hummingbird Feeding at the Orange Tree

When the sun dips
from its noonday post,
the front garden stirs,
slowly rising from its daily doze.

Soon a hummingbird
joins the buzz of bees
and nuzzles blossoms
from the orange tree.
