Forth I Go Whither I Walk

Today, in sunlight,
I stand just beyond the path;
but for a locked gate,
onwards I’d have run!…and yet…
forth I go whither I walk.

Only Then

Perhaps life isn’t so straightforward
and plans change or changed for you
but you’re nudged nonetheless towards
something nameless but necessary
and so you follow, sometimes willingly,
or perhaps not, and if so
life will always return you to this fated place
until all the fruit’s picked
and the field grows fallow and only then can you
leave for other spaces.

Study in Glass

Sands bathed by fire
flow like teardrops for a time;
patience forms a vase.

Posted for the Writing 201 (Poetry), day 1 prompt: Water…I know I know, my poem and the prompt don’t (at first glance) fit, but I glimpsed a vase with cascading lines, and my mind wouldn’t shut off. I just hope tomorrow’s word isn’t glass!

B – Baking Cookies

Milk and Cookies
Life is a bit like
baking cookies
in a temperamental oven,
wouldn’t you agree?

Various ingredients are mixed
together into a sticky goo,
sometimes bitter, mostly sweet
depending on your view.

375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes,
exact duration unknown.
So, you constantly check for the
ideal golden brown.

Timing is indispensable
and unwavering attention key.
Without one or the other,
your batch is unpalatable.
