Light pierces gray clouds
oppressing turbulent seas.
Lone gull soars aloft.

I walk towards solitude
ten minutes from home.
Desert wilderness,
stippled in olive and beige,
lures soles to pavement.

Jewel box lays empty.
Rather, I wander the woods,
boots begrimed by earth.
***Hats off to the ladies who work full time while raising babies and still manage to post on time. <sigh> I, on the other hand, have only myself to baby, and I still miss deadlines. Sorry. 😦

Tempest clouds the sky
and drowns the valley in floods,
then sun shines brightly.

Tinny tunes from brass bands float
and starry stripes to the wind contort;
the sun shines brightly on this day of days,
illuminating happy faces and grinning aces.
But when taps accompanies dusk,
in the bugle’s lament revelers suss,
and mournful notes remind the masses:
this day marks more than sales and a day off classes.
