When the Door Closes

My secret life as a poet, writer, photographer…

Shadow of Leaves on Leaf

Twilight falls slowly:
shadows lengthening on leaves,
green fading to night.

*Sorry, I just realized I published the unedited version of my haiku in the first instance of posting. (Yikes!) This is the final version.

Wrought Iron Shadows

The noon sun blazes,
and all hide under shadows,
but the wrought iron
instead reveals its facets
in intricate defiance.

From the Shadows, Color

Briers cast shadows
long of thorn, short of flowers.
Behold one, reward.

Shadows on Large Leaf

Sun high in the sky.
Trills dwindle into stillness.
Only shadows dance.

Shadows on the Wall

Shadows on the wall
cobweb along the stucco
but fade with the clouds.

*Instead of googling an image, though, I trolled my own hard drive. 🙂

Look behind,
thou shriveled stem,
and gaze upon
the shadow of thy old self,
but fear not
thy careworn petals
for Spring comes anon,
restoring former glory –
a triumph of exquisite splendor.
